Published on February 1st, 2025, Within is my second published collection of poetry and my first published collection of short stories.
Within is a reflection of my commitment to staying true to myself by giving voice to the topics that were once difficult for me to confront. Through poetry and short stories, I explore themes deeply rooted in South Asian culture, challenging stereotypes and misconceptions that often go unspoken. From the weight of expectations to the complexities of identity, I wanted to create a space where these struggles could be acknowledged with honesty and nuance. Structuring the book around Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs allowed me to frame these experiences within the fundamental aspects of human fulfillment, beginning with survival and security, moving through belonging and self-worth, and culminating in self-actualization. By following this progression, Within not only tells a story of personal and collective struggle but also of growth, healing, and the pursuit of authenticity.
This website has always been my home. Within The Raw has held meaning through its title for what I have always believed in: being true to oneself and remaining as honest and authentic as possible.
Within came nearly 9 years after the publication of my first book, Raw. To say a lot has changed in 9 years would be an understatement. However, as much as things have changed, many things have stayed the same. This website, for example, started as a personal blog when I was in high school. Since then, it has served as a personal blog, fashion blog, medicine blog, e-commerce site for books, clothing, and so much more.
I am beyond excited, grateful, and deeply honored to connect with others through my writing. It means everything to me that my words resonate with readers in ways both personal and profound. Platforms like Substack have been incredible in expanding that connection, allowing for meaningful conversations and reflections, but Within the Raw will always be my home, the heart of where my writing lives. The support for Within has been overwhelming in the best way, and I can’t wait to hear the thoughts, reflections, and honest reviews from those who read it. Knowing that my work sparks dialogue, introspection, or even just a moment of feeling understood is the greatest gift, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.
